Riddell Hit With Patent Suit Over Football Helmets’ Safety Tech (correct)

Two of Riddell Inc.’s lines of football helmets infringe a patent for technology that absorbs or spreads energy from impacts away from the user’s head, a federal lawsuit says.

William A. Jacob, a Haitian immigrant and resident of Kansas City, Mo., alleges that Riddell’s Speedflex and Axiom helmet lines infringe US Patent No. 11,464,271, according to a complaint filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The patent had been transferred to him by his son, William J. Jacob, an inventor and a former outside patent counsel for General Motors, according to the complaint. ...
