Pinterest Wants Video Recommendation Patent Suit Trimmed (1)

Pinterest Inc. told a Delaware federal judge three patents owned by a US subsidiary of Switzerland-based Kudelski SA concern advertising and playlist methods that aren’t eligible for patent protection.

Three of four patents OpenTV Inc. asserted against Pinterest concern abstract ideas for targeted advertising and manipulating data for playlist customization, according to its brief supporting its motion to dismiss filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the District of Delaware. Targeted advertising is a “longstanding human practice,” Pinterest said.

Pinterest requested the dismissal of allegations involving US Patent Nos. 10,419,817, 9,699,503 and 7,669,212.
