Perplexity AI Countersues to Cancel ‘Comet’ Trademarks for Fraud

Perplexity AI Inc. filed a counterattack against a software company’s trademark lawsuit, urging a federal judge to cancel the “comet” registrations because they were allegedly obtained through fraud.

Comet ML Inc. knowingly defrauded the US Patent and Trademark Office by claiming its “comet” and “comet.ml” monikers were used for “IT consulting services” when they weren’t, according to Perplexity’s answer and counterclaims filed July 18 in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
