New Yorkers still face potential surveillance, data bias, and discrimination from state agencies using artificial intelligence nearly a year after Gov. Kathy Hochul vowed to make the state a model for using the technology responsibly.
Her administration isn’t actively enforcing safety guidelines she announced Jan. 8, according to the state’s chief information officer, who discussed its implementation in a Tuesday interview.
“Can I say that everybody’s following the policy? I can’t, at this point,” Dru Rai, the head of the Office of Information Technology Services, said.
