New York is encouraging state agencies to adopt artificial intelligence tools—with limits—under a plan taking effect Monday that Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) will outline in her State of the State address on Jan. 9.
Hochul is joining other elected leaders like California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) in taking executive action to set limits on a fast-evolving technology many fear will lead to increased digital surveillance and misinformation, as well as massive job losses. She will detail her AI approach alongside a broader legislative agenda that she will include in a draft budget to be released later this month.
