A Manhattan federal court rejected Major League Baseball’s bid to escape a patent-infringement suit that accuses it of stealing dynamic digital ticket-barcode technology.
MLB Advanced Media LP failed to convince the US District Court for the Southern District of New York that the patent asserted by EChanging Barcode LLC is abstract and therefore ineligible for protection, according to an opinion issued Friday. Judge Paul A. Engelmayer denied MLBAM’s Jan. 6 motion to dismiss but said it could again challenge the patent’s eligibility at a later stage of litigation.
