Meta Secures Board Reviews of Virtual Reality, Streaming Patents

Meta Platforms Inc. convinced an administrative tribunal to review five virtual-reality patents and two streaming patents that it’s been accused of infringing in three separate federal lawsuits.

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board instituted inter partes reviews of five Immersion Corp. patents and two VideoLabs Inc. patents, according to decisions issued Wednesday and Thursday.

Immersion sued Meta in 2022 and again earlier last month, alleging that its Quest virtual reality headsets infringed a total of six patents. The tech giant has challenged all six patents at the PTAB on the grounds of obviousness, and the board agreed to review ...
