Privacy Class Action Over ‘Person Detection’ AI Cams Moves Ahead

A proposed class action lawsuit alleging artificial intelligence-powered home security cameras violate a state biometric privacy law is heading toward trial after a federal judge denied camera maker Arlo Technologies Inc.‘s bid to toss the case.

The claims from two Illinois DoorDash drivers and a UPS driver that Arlo collected scans of drivers’ faces without providing the notice or consent required by Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act are sufficient to survive Arlo’s motion to dismiss, Judge Edward J. Davila, of the US District Court for the Northern District of California, said in a Thursday decision.
