AT&T, Nokia Must Pay $181 Million After Failing to Shake Verdict

AT&T Mobility LLC and Nokia of America Corp. must pay enhanced damages of $181 million to Finesse Wireless LLC after the cellular service providers failed to convince a Texas federal judge to throw out a trial verdict and reject the patent holder’s request for interest on the jury’s award.

Jurors in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas ordered AT&T and Nokia in January to pay $166 million in lump-sum damages to compensate Finesse for the infringement of two patents related to PIM technology, which reduces signal interference in cellular network base stations.
