Amazon Owes $136 Million as Texas Judge Enters Patent Judgment

Amazon.com Inc. owes more than $136 million in damages and interest for infringing AlmondNet Inc.’s patents protecting targeted advertising methods, a Texas federal judge ruled.

Judge Alan Albright entered final judgment against Amazon Tuesday after a jury’s June verdict in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas that it infringed US Patent Nos. 8,671,139 and 7,822,639 The judge awarded AlmondNet $14.7 million in pre-judgment interest—on top of the $122 million in damages—which is nearly $73 million less than what the patent owner sought.
