Software Developer Loses Bid to Put Insurance Fight on Hold

A federal judge rejected a software vendor’s motion to pause its suit against a Hartford Insurance Group Inc. unit while it seeks to toss underlying privacy litigation over student-athlete data.

Insurance coverage issues aren’t relevant and won’t be resolved in the underlying lawsuits, which allege Keffer Development Services LLC operated athletic trainer software through which a former coach for the University of Michigan’s football team wrongfully accessed athletes’ personal and health information, the US District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania said in a Tuesday ruling.
