SoFi Brings Back Former Top Lawyer After General Counsel’s Exit

SoFi Technologies Inc.’s new chief legal officer Robert Lavet is no stranger to his C-suite surroundings.

Lavet spent a dozen years at SoFi until retiring from the San Francisco-based company as its general counsel in mid-2024. Stephen Simcock, a veteran financial services lawyer hired that same year to succeed Lavet, retired as SoFi’s top lawyer as of Dec. 31, according to a recent securities filing.

SoFi’s disclosure noted that Simcock’s retirement was not the result of “any dispute or disagreement with the company” related to its financial and accounting policies, practices, or operations. Simcock, who was listed as 62 ...
