SoFi Hires JPMorgan’s Top Retail Lawyer as Next Legal Chief

SoFi Technologies Inc. has hired veteran financial services lawyer Stephen Simcock from JPMorgan Chase & Co. to be the new general counsel for the financial technology and online banking company best known as SoFi.

Simcock succeeds Robert Lavet, who has spent more than a decade as the top lawyer for SoFi and predecessor Social Finance Inc., which went public in 2021 by merging with a special purpose acquisition company. Lavet is retiring as general counsel and corporate secretary for SoFi and will transition into an advisory role at the company but remain a director for subsidiary SoFi Bank NA.
