Transgender Minors Drop Challenge to South Carolina’s Care Ban

Transgender minors and their parents are voluntarily dismissing a lawsuit seeking to invalidate South Carolina’s ban on certain gender-affirming treatments following recent appellate decisions.

The plaintiffs told the US District Court for the District of South Carolina on Tuesday that they’re dropping the suit filed in August 2024. It mirrored one in which Tennessee plaintiffs challenged that state’s prohibition on using puberty-blocking drugs, cross-sex hormones, and surgery to treat gender dysphoria in people under 18.

The US Supreme Court decided in June in United States v. Skrmetti that Tennessee’s provision didn’t violate the youths’ equal protection rights.
