Trans South Carolinians Sue State Over Gender-Affirming Care Law

Transgender minors and adults sued South Carolina to invalidate a law barring access to “gender transition procedures” that are medically necessary to treat gender dysphoria.

The American Civil Liberties Union Foundation filed a proposed class action Thursday in the US District Court for the District of South Carolina on behalf of two minors and their parents, saying the state’s gender-affirming care ban for minors directly threatens trans South Carolinians’ mental health and physical well being.
