Texas Trans Care Lawsuit Aims to Broaden Protection for Families

A new lawsuit meant to protect parents who could be investigated by the state of Texas for child abuse if they are suspected of providing gender-affirming care for transgender children could create a broader injunction against the state’s directive.

The suit, filed Wednesday by the American Civil Liberties Union and Lambda Legal, is intended to block any investigations against members of PFLAG Inc., an organization that represents families of LGBTQ people. The Texas Supreme Court allowed for an injunction for a party in another case, Doe v. Abbott, but didn’t continue its application more broadly.
