The Environmental Democracy Project sued Tesla in May 2024 at the US District Court for the Northern District of California, accusing the company’s Fremont, Calif., factory of emitting pollution beyond its Title V operating permit.
The contested paint shop broke its permit emission limits 160 times between 2021 and 2024, according to the citizen suit. Tesla denied the allegations, according to an April status report.
