Tesla Accused of Clean Air Act Violations in New Citizen Suit

Electric vehicle giant Tesla Motors Inc. faces a new citizen lawsuit that claims the company’s Fremont, Calif., factory emitted pollution well beyond its Clean Air Act permit.

The Fremont factory operated under a Title V air permit governed by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, which found that the operations violated that permit more than 160 times between 2021 and 2024, according to the suit.

The facility’s two paint shops emit hazardous and criteria air pollutants that are the main sources of the Clean Air Act violations since January 2021, according to the suit.
