DEA Extends Controlled Substance Teleprescribing Rule Again (1)

The Drug Enforcement Administration adopted a temporary one-year extension of pandemic-era online prescribing flexibilities for controlled substances like Adderall, Ambien, or ketamine.

The temporary rule (RIN 1117-ZA06) released Friday builds upon an earlier version released by the agency in May 2023 and extended again in October 2023 that allowed providers to continue treating their patients online without an in-person evaluation through the end of 2024. It will be the third extension of online prescribing flexibilities issued by the agency.
