Fifteen Republican attorneys general warned the Biden administration Thursday that they’re prepared to challenge the president’s move to allow Veterans Administration hospitals to perform abortions even in states that have outlawed the procedure.
In a letter, the attorneys general of Mississippi, Texas, Florida, and a dozen other states argue that Congress did not specifically authorize the Department of Veterans Affairs to help patients terminate pregnancies. They add that the VA can’t “override” states’ authority to craft their own abortion regulations.
