ACA Premium Fight Sparks Coverage Loss Fears From Health Leaders

State-based Obamacare exchange leaders have warned they expect to start seeing a reduction in enrollee numbers unless Congress reaches an agreement to extend premium subsidies in the next two weeks.

The proposed extension of enhanced Affordable Care Act premium tax credits remains at the center of a fight on Capitol Hill over government funding. These versions of the credits, which expire in December, are more generous and accessible to more individuals. A recent estimate from the nonpartisan policy group KFF reflects a 114% average increase in premium payments for subsidized enrollees next year without the enhanced tax credits.
