Walgreens Escapes Investors’ Suit Over Role in Opioid Epidemic

Walgreens Holding Co. was freed from proposed class allegations the drugstore giant defrauded investors over its opioid dispensation practices.

Investors sued at least 25 days too late, Judge Joan Humphrey Lefkow said Tuesday, dismissing the claims with finality as time-barred. The investors’ complaint admitted the alleged revelation of Walgreens’ misrepresentations started on Jan. 5, 2023, when it released a quarterly report disclosing a $3.7 billion loss related to opioid litigation, the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois judge said.
