States Applaud EPA’s Move to Approve Ozone Pollution Plans

Several states and industry commended the Environmental Protection Agency for its proposal tentatively approving state plans to tackle ozone pollution years after they were originally submitted and following multiple legal battles.

The EPA, through its proposed rule published in January, said it would approve the state implementation plans submitted under the National Ambient Air Quality Standards for Alabama, Arizona, Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, and Tennessee. The proposed rule comes years after the Biden administration rejected proposals to tackle upwind states’ pollution impacting downwind states under the “Good Neighbor” provision of the Clean Air Act.
