Senate Moves Ahead on Stopgap Funds Without Manchin Permit Bill

Senators have a clearer path toward averting a shutdown now that Sen. Joe Manchin agreed to remove his energy permitting bill from a stopgap government funding bill.

The bipartisan opposition to the legislation by Manchin (D-W.Va.) threatened to stall its passage.

Lawmakers aim to get the continuing resolution through both chambers and to the president’s desk by Friday night, when funding expires.
