Proposed Agreement Sets EPA Deadlines for Traveling Ozone Plans

The EPA will have to meet new deadlines to handle four states’ traveling ozone air quality plans under a proposed agreement released Wednesday.

Under the proposed consent decree, the Environmental Protection Agency must either approve state ozone plans or craft federal alternatives to address wandering ozone pollution from New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Utah, and Virginia.

The agency has until March 2023 under the agreement to issue plans for Pennsylvania, Utah, and Virginia, and will need to meet a June 2024 deadline for New Mexico.
