Premcor Refining Group Inc. advanced a claim against one of the fossil fuel companies that allegedly contributed to an Illinois environmental contamination.
The refining company remediated environmentally harmful contamination in the Village of Hartford, Ill. from its oil refinery. It sued several fossil fuel companies that had allegedly also contributed to the release of hazardous substances, contaminants, and other regulated toxic substances to help with the clean-up costs.
Premcor asked for summary judgment on the issue of which companies are considered “covered persons” under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act.
