Maryland County Faces Challenge Against Natural Gas Restrictions

Groups representing restaurants, home builders, and unions are challenging a Maryland county’s bill allegedly banning the use of gas appliances in new buildings beginning in 2026.

“Banning the use of gas appliances in new construction and renovations is at odds with the needs of County residents, workers, and businesses for affordable, resilient, and reliable energy,” the complaint filed with the US District Court for the District of Maryland said Thursday.

Other attempts to curb natural gas across the county have also been met with fierce opposition from similar organizations.
