Kroger Drops Compostable Claim to Settle PFAS Lawsuit

The Kroger Co. has agreed to drop claims that disposable foodware, like plates and bowls, are compostable to settle allegations before a federal district court that the statement misleads customers, because the products were made with PFAS.

Kroger “shall modify all its labels, advertising and marketing of the products to remove the words ‘100% compostable’ or ‘compostable,’” according to the settlement, Judge Edward M. Chen of the U.S. District Court Northern District of California, approved Sept. 30.
