Grants Monitoring Boosted at EPA in Bid to Prevent Waste (1)

The EPA is staffing up to keep a closer eye on the billions of dollars of grant funding it’s sending out the door to make sure the money isn’t wasted or stolen.

The new data comes as a response to recent reports from the Environmental Protection Agency’s inspector general warning of the risk of waste, fraud and abuse if the agency can’t adequately track the tens of billions of dollars it’s granting to states, tribes, cities, and community groups under the infrastructure and climate bills. Republican lawmakers have also scrutinized the agency’s ability to monitor the grants.
