Some federal grant recipients don’t know about the criminal penalties they could face for defrauding the government, the EPA’s in-house watchdog cautioned agency officials in a Thursday memo.
The warning comes as much of the $100 billion the infrastructure and climate bills gave the Environmental Protection Agency must be sent out in the form of grants.
Some of those grants will be awarded to groups that have never received one before and might not be familiar with the rules, EPA Inspector General Sean O’Donnell told a House subcommittee on Wednesday.
