GE Agrees With EPA on $576 Million Housatonic River Cleanup (1)

The EPA announced a $576 million cleanup plan for the Housatonic River Thursday, where General Electric Co. will clean up polychlorinated biphenyls and other contaminants embedded in river sediment and floodplains.

GE will be required to perform the cleanup under a Resource Conservation and Recovery Act permit. Remediation at the site has progressed during the past 20 years under a consent decree signed by the Environmental Protection Agency, the company, and several local and state governments.
