The US Forest Service illegally approved a 16,000-acre Oregon logging project, according to a complaint filed by an environmental group claiming that the project violated the original land and resources management plan for Fremont-Winema National Forest, which didn’t allow for the logging of large trees.
The agency approved the South Warner Habitat Restoration Project in January 2021 by relying on a Trump-era amendment that amended the forest plan, “Eastside Screens,” for Fremont-Winema and five other national forests in Oregon.
