Forest Service Agrees to Limit Logging Project in Lynx Habitat

The US Forest Service agreed to modify a logging project in Washington after a conservation group argued the plan threatened a criticial habitat for the endangered Canada lynx.

The agency rescinded the boundary expansions for commercial logging, prescribed burning and road work in the Colville National Forest’s Kettle Range, according to a settlement the US District Court for the Eastern District of Washington approved Wednesday.

The environmental analysis and final decision no longer authorize “vegetation management activities” in core areas designated for lynx recovery, the order said.
