BP to Pay $2.75 Million After Suit Over Oil Refinery Emissions

BP Products North America Inc. has agreed to pay $2.75 million after being found liable for repeatedly violating emissions limits at an Indiana oil refinery, according to a settlement agreement filed in federal court.

The Sierra Club sued BP for alleged Clean Air Act violations at its Whiting refinery in 2019. In April 2021, a federal court found that the organization provided undisputed evidence that BP violated its testing requirement when it received eight test results above the particulate matter emissions limit between 2014 and 2018.
