The immigration detention facility dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz” is a major source of air pollution currently operating without legally required permits, an environmental group said in a new lawsuit filed Wednesday.
The Florida Division of Emergency Management violates the Clean Air Act by using more than 200 diesel-burning generators, lighting towers, and other polluting equipment at the makeshift center still holding hundreds of detainees, according to the complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
