Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) confirmed reports Thursday that the potential closure of the “Alligator Alcatraz” migrant detention facility has been discussed, but he says federal officials “haven’t said they want to wind it down.”
DeSantis denied reports that the US Department of Homeland Security wants to close the facility during a press conference.
DHS said in a statement that any reports the agency “is pressuring to cease operations at Alligator Alcatraz are false.”
