This week’s Know Your Judge features Phyllis J. Hamilton of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
Hamilton was nominated in 2000 to the federal bench by President Bill Clinton. Since 2014, Hamilton has been serving as chief judge. From 1991 until her appointment, Hamilton served as a magistrate judge for the Northern District of California.
Earlier this year, Hamilton held that DoorDash Inc., a restaurant food delivery service company, could take a lawsuit accusing it of misclassifying its drivers as independent contractors out of federal court and into arbitration.
