Labor Secretary Marty Walsh attended a meeting with unions representing roughly 80,000 railway workers and major freight companies in Washington, D.C., Wednesday, as they work to reach an agreement to prevent a potential strike that could disrupt US supply chains.
Several rail unions and carriers will be meeting with the National Mediation Board this week to discuss recommendations issued by a Presidential Emergency Board last month to resolve a contract dispute between 12 unions representing 115,000 rail workers and freight companies that has spanned more than 2 years.
