Virginia Lawmakers Delay Minimum Wage Hike Due to Virus (1)

Virginia’s move to increase the statewide minimum wage to $9.50 an hour in 2021 will be put off by four months.

Lawmakers narrowly approved Wednesday a delay of legislative provisions (H.B. 395/S.B. 7) that Gov. Ralph Northam (D) had recommended. The governor had asked that the previously approved increases be put off until May 1, 2021, due to the economic uncertainties posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lawmakers also voted to delay authorizing collective bargaining for public employees (H.B. 582/S.B. 939), allowing localities to enter into project labor agreements (H.B. 358/S.B. 182), and prevailing wage ...
