University of California Loses Immigrant Student Hiring Case (1)

A state court found that the University of California’s restrictions on employment of undocumented immigrants violates state law.

A three-judge panel at the California Court of Appeal, First District in Los Angeles ruled Tuesday that the policy against hiring undocumented students on campus discriminates on the basis of immigration status. The court didn’t direct the the university system to take any action, but said the college can’t rely on the risk of federal enforcement alone to justify discriminatory hiring policy.
