Senate Panel Advances Labor Department Benefits Pick Gomez (1)

The Senate labor committee voted 12-10 Thursday in favor of Lisa Gomez heading the U.S. Department of Labor’s employee benefits agency.

Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) supported Gomez, preventing the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee’s vote from ending in a party-line tie.

Gomez’s nomination to lead the Employee Benefits Security Administration had been held for additional vetting after Republican members of the panel raised questions about EBSA’s plans for a new rulemaking on environmental, social, and corporate governance factors in retirement investing.
