March 30, 2022, 9:14 AM UTC

The U.S. Senate confirmed Christopher Williamson as head of the Mine Safety and Health Administration by voice vote on Tuesday.

The White House nominated Williamson in November to lead the U.S. Department of Labor’s mine safety subagency, and the Senate allowed his nomination to carry over into the new year.

Williamson was most recently senior counsel to National Labor Relations Board Chair Lauren McFerran, a Democrat. He has past experience with the mine safety agency, having previously served on its senior leadership team under former President Barack Obama.
