The San Antonio City Council agreed to delay the enforcement of its paid sick leave ordinance until Dec. 1 while courts weigh in on the mandate’s legality.
Business groups sued the city July 15, asking for a temporary injunction to stop the law’s Aug. 1 effective date. They say the city’s requirement that employers give workers earned sick leave violates Texas’ minimum wage law. In response, the city submitted an agreed order for consideration to the court to delay the implementation date, and a judge will consider the agreement July 24.
