North Carolina won’t join the 26 states ending expanded federal unemployment benefits earlier than expected, after Gov.
The legislation would have ended the federal supplement of $300 per week within 30 days—or about a month earlier than the September cutoff date Congress set for the program. The state’s Republican-majority legislature passed the bill last month, looking to follow the lead of other states ending federal jobless aid early to push unemployed people back to work.
