Florida will stop paying the $300 weekly federal boost in unemployment aid, following more than 20 other Republican-led states in cutting off enhanced benefits months before they’re scheduled to end.
The move, which state officials announced Monday, is aimed at pushing people back to work after more than a year of enhanced jobless benefits during the pandemic, as businesses complain of difficulties in hiring enough workers. Florida will stop distributing the $300 supplemental payment on June 26.
The federally funded benefits are scheduled to last until early September, unless Congress acts to extend them.
