Myanmar Gets Extension of Temporary Protected Status Designation

Immigrants from Myanmar will be eligible to secure deportation protections and employment authorization through November 2025, the Department of Homeland Security said in a Federal Register notice released Friday.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas previously announced an extension of the Temporary Protected Status designation for Myanmar in September. The country was previously known as Burma, the name that the US government still uses.

About 2,300 current TPS beneficiaries will be eligible to re-register for the benefits, which have a duration of 18 months, and another 7,300 in the US will be newly eligible.
