Monsanto Won’t Exclude Non-Citizens From Roundup Payouts (1)

Chemical company Monsanto Co. has agreed not to exclude non-US citizens from future settlement agreements related to allegations that the herbicide Roundup exposed farmworkers to cancer.

The deal announced Wednesday settles a case brought by Elvira Reyes-Hernandez, an immigrant field worker who alleged that she was wrongly excluded from Roundup payouts because of her citizenship status, in violation of Section 1981 of the 1866 Civil Rights Act.

Reyes-Hernandez was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma after she was exposed to the herbicide while working on Virginia tree farms.
