President Joe Biden’s nominee for labor secretary, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, is scheduled for the first of two Senate confirmation votes Feb. 11.
- The Senate labor panel is expected to approve Walsh’s nomination with support from at least some Republicans, including Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), the committee’s ranking member
- Walsh will then have to win approval from the 50-50 split Senate to receive final confirmation
- He’s poised to be the first union member in nearly half a century to serve as labor secretary, though he promised at his Feb. 4 confirmation hearing to work with Republicans
