The White House has finished reviewing a proposed rule on classifying workers as independent contractors, setting up the Labor Department to officially release the highly anticipated policy change.
The proposal left the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs on Wednesday. If finalized, the rule would have broad wage implications across various industries, including the gig economy, construction, and trucking.
Business groups have pushed the administration in recent weeks to repeal the Biden-era rule and shift the standards for when a worker is an employee entitled to federal minimum wage and overtime protection, or a contractor who is not.
