Justices Let Alaska’s State Worker Union Dues Plan Remain Dead

The US Supreme Court rejected Alaska’s bid to revive its plan to take control of key parts of the union dues process for government workers, rebuffing another attempt to extend the court’s landmark 2018 ruling on public sector union financing.

The justices announced Tuesday that they’ll let stand an Alaska Supreme Court decision that blocked the dues takeover program that Republican Gov. Mike Dunleavy said was necessary for the state to comply with Janus v. AFSCME. That ruling prohibited public sector unions from requiring nonmembers to pay fees for nonpolitical expenses.
